Another St. Patrick’s Day Celebration is in the books! Downtown Roanoke celebrated again in grand style with its annual parade and Shamrock Festival. The crowds gathered early on Saturday as the parade kicked off at 11 am, and festivities went well into the wee hours of the night as people filled the streets, garbed in green, to partake in Irish merriment.
I really wanted to see JJ Grey and Mofro at what would be my fourth FloydFest. I knew it was going to be a close call with my daughter due a couple of weeks before the festival. We had taken our son Jack, age 5, in the past, toting him around in the red Radio Flyer wagon. I was confident we could take the new baby. Stella Ruth was born on July 10, 2010. The rest of that month produced record high heat. To my dismay, the wife and I decided that, even in the shade, those hot temperatures didn’t seem safe for our two-week-old baby girl. I woke up that Saturday feeling down about missing the show, but knew it was the right decision.
The guitar has been in my hands for almost 30 years and the art of writing a song hits me pretty hard. I’m attracted to a well written song and am inspired to better myself every time I pick up my instrument. My songs are generated from real life experiences. I write what I live.
