Blue Ridge Rocks started as a simple idea: A website that would shine a light on the talented artists who ply their trade in the Roanoke music scene, and an events calendar for fans to find those acts.
In the 21 months we’ve been here, we’ve featured more than 75 local and regional artists, sharing what motivates them to create, and hopefully, bringing a deeper appreciation of them to their fans. We’ve promoted music festivals, concerts, and social events, and done our best to celebrate the music makers here in Roanoke. In the process, we learned a lot about effective promotion and writing, and made a host of new friends along the way. We attended and reviewed some incredible shows and provided a space for a few of our talented local photographers to share their work.
Yet, time moves on and priorities change. We now find it’s time to bring this little project to an end. Roanoke has a unique and vibrant music scene that’s only going to continue to grow. We hope our little website has helped shine a bit more light upon it.
Should anyone have the desire to carry this project further, let us know. We will happily hand it over so the music can live on. Otherwise, we’ll be resharing some of our favorite artist spotlights through our Facebook page, over the next month until the site goes dark in January. Beyond that, we will keep the social media pages going so we can continue to share and help promote live music events from around the region.
Play on, friends.
