Artist Snapshot: Fabulous Dramatics
Almost exactly one a year ago we featured a new (to the area) singer songwriter, Kris Piemonte, and his quest to find innovative “sounds between the sounds” in his music. His goals were simple and brave: create meaningful sounds and lyrics that revealed universal truths, then bring them to the stage such that others felt it.
He was also searching for bandmates who could share in that vision.
One year later, and Piemonte is well along his path to realizing those goals. With the addition of guitarist/ keyboardist Marc Verica, a recent transplant from Charlottesville, the Fabulous Dramatics are set to launch a new album this Saturday at Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers.
“We met through work in July 2016, and immediately hit it off over drinks and talk of common music interests,” recalled Piemonte in a recent interview. “Most conversations like that, with intentions to ‘get together and jam’ typically go nowhere. But within a week we were practicing together and inspiring each other to new sounds.”
The two have been playing together at least weekly since then.
“Neither of us has been in a great hurry to launch before we were ready.” Piemonte confidently stated. Both men, accomplished musicians individually, with more than a decade each of playing in other bands, saw the value of developing their voice together before taking it to the audience.
Verica, who played in several projects in Charlottesville, most recently in the hard rock SciFi band, Valix, has brought new life and perspective to the extensive catalogue that Piemonte has built over the last 12 years playing in bands and solo performances from Baltimore to Roanoke. Verica’s blues, rhythm, and funk styles, pair beautifully with Piemonte’s percussive and rhythmic acoustic guitar style, and strong voice. After this launch, the boys will booking gigs around the area and looking for the next addition to the band. They want to add a bassist who shares their musical philosophy, then a drummer, and then go electric. The two already have a catalogue that can easily fill a three hour set, which makes them an ideal pairing with some our regions brewery settings, so look for them to be playing your favorite watering hole.
While the two have played out several times around the region, Saturday’s launch marks a reintroduction to the area, with a new website, and a performance on Daytime Blue Ridge today. Saturday’s performance at Soaring Ridge will be opened by singer songwriter Charissa Morrison, who Piemonte called “a hidden jewel” in the local music scene.
