What do you get when you combine 10 + hours of live music with craft beer tastings, a farm-to-table dinner, trail races, children’s activities, and wellness workshops, all in the heart of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains? It’s none other than the next generation cult classic: Floyd Fandango.
Being billed as the “FloydFest Love Child,” Fandango can either be an old-school FloydFest experience for all of you veteran FloydFesters. Or, it can be a little taste of everything you’re missing out on if you’ve never experienced the “magic, music, and mountains” that FloydFest provides for five days every July.
For those of you who fall in the previous category, you can expect the same combination of eclectic roots music and outdoor amenities, all branded with the unique, “love is all around me” FloydFest vibe you’ve come to know and love. While the schedule is still being finalized, the lineup is packed full of talent.
Most of these are the same bands who have battled it out on The Phoenix stage to win a spot in the On-The-Rise (OtR) Competition. Each year, FloydFest hosts OtR to provide additional exposure for some very talented up and coming bands. Swamp Candy, Annabell’s Curse, The MidAtlantic and Paperbird are just a few of those bands who have taken home top OtR honors in recent years. Then there’s that little known group, The Avett Brothers, who claimed the 2004 OtR title and is now packing venues nationwide. You just never know what raw talent is waiting to be discovered with OtR bands. The Fandango music culminates with a two-and-half-hour set by Uncle John’s Band All-Star Jam. Dancing shoes advised.
The truly beautiful thing about Fandango is the cost. For $15 ($20 at the gate), you get all that music, a souvenir beer or wine glass, three tasting tickets, plus camping and parking. Then there are the add-ons.
“Typically, we don’t do add-ons, but with the Fandango size and price point, we felt it worked here, said Sam Calhoun, Director of Marketing & Ticketing for Across-The-Way Productions. “Our biggest add-on is a sit down farm-to-table dinner with music provided by the consummate host, Blue Mule. Plus, there’s also a 5k trail run, bike race and disc golf tournament that patrons can participate in.”
To add to the fun, Fandango will also feature a “drink tank” where patrons can partake in a 30-minute beer, wine, and cider tasting. Four pogs ($8 dollars) gets you eight beer or cider tastings or four wine tastings. For a complete list of libation vendors and tasting details, visit the Floyd Fandango website.
So, now the question is what are you waiting for? Purchase your tickets. Then on June 25, grab your tent, the kids, a couple of canned goods for the food drive, and boogie on up to Floyd where you can “Trip the Lights Fandango.”Fandango Details
