Performing live is an escape from reality. For two to three hours I think of nothing but music. No worries. No cares. It’s one of the few things I can do that keeps my mind from running a thousand miles an hour. I’ve been singing with the Virginia Remnants’ guitar player, Jody Hanshew, for over a decade. We have been in two bands together and played as an acoustic duo.
This photo is from Virginia Remnants’, “Song of The Mountains” performance, February 2015, at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, VA. It is scheduled to air on PBS for season 11 this year. This is a true “In the moment” photo, where you can almost remember every single emotion you felt at that exact second in time.
What’s on your personal playlist right now?
Seth Stainback and Roosterfoot is always on my playlist. If you’ve never heard them or seen them live, do yourself a favor and check them out. Amazing blues rock guitar at its best.
The London Souls. They are one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live. To be able to create their sound as a two piece and still keep people engaged is a rare feat.
Gary Clark Jr. He is a beast and his album, “The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim” is amazing.
Any playlist would be incomplete without Jason Isbell. He can make you cry, drink, laugh, and come to Jesus all in the same song.
Disclaimer: My playlist is very fluid, so tomorrow it could very well be completely different.
Head down to Abingdon on Apr 30th and hear the Virginia Remnants at BoneFire Smokehouse.
